A miniature schnauzer-poodle mix had spent over 10 years in a home when suddenly, late last month, he found himself all alone on a hot Virginia street corner, unable to move.<\/p>\n

A Good Samaritan spotted the confused, matted dog and called\u00a0Richmond Animal Care and Control<\/a>\u00a0(RACC) to report the abandoned pet. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the old dog tied to a pole by his leash.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re grateful someone saw him and called us, so he didn\u2019t have to stay\u00a0tied to a pole<\/a>\u00a0for a day and a half,\u201d Christie Chipps Peters, director of RACC, told The Dodo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One of the officers, Francis Boone, noticed\u00a0something hanging<\/a>\u00a0from the dog\u2019s collar \u2014 a small square of cardboard covered in tape.<\/p>\n

On it, some words were carefully written out in black Sharpie:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy name is Oreo. I\u2019m over 10 years old. I have anxiety. My owner died. I\u2019m really good. I need a home.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
